  1. What is MODEM? Also explain its types and speed .
  2. Answer:- MODEM stands for Modulator-Demodulator. It is a device that enables a computer to transmit data over the telephone or cable lines.
    Modem is of two types: External and Internal.
    1. External Modem: It is linked to computer externally with cables.
    2. Internal Modem: It is fitted inside the computer.
    Modem speeds are variable and typically measured in bits per second (bps). Slow modem takes more time to send or receive data. Generally a modem with 28.8 kbps speed is used. For dial-up modems, due to the technology used to deliver normal phone service, the fastest rate available is 56 kbps.
  3. Explain the facilities provided by the Internet.
  4. Answer:- Internet provides us many facilities. Some of them are as follows: -
    • News and Information: We can read newspapers online and get all kinds of information such as politics, sports etc.
    • Art and Entertainment: It provides us a lot of material for art and entertainment such as games, songs, movies, stories etc.
    • Online Shopping:We can purchase anything online from home using online shopping.
    • Mailing Letters: Using E-Mail, we can send and receive messages from all over the world.
    • Tourism and Travel: It provides facility for online booking of hotels, railway tickets, air tickets etc.
    • Chatting: We can instantly send and receive text messages anywhere in the world.
    • Banking operations: Now all banking operations can be done right from our home using E-banking services.
    • Video Conferencing: It helps us to have face to face video conversation with two or more persons at the same time.
  5. What is E-mail? Write the advantages of using email.
  6. Answer:- E-mail stands for Electronic Mail. It is a facility on internet to send and receive messages to any part of the world.
    Advantages of Email are as follows: -
    • Cost: Cost given for use of internet is the only money given. User need not to give money for postal stamps. It is cheaper than fax.
    • Speed: Its speed is greater than postal transmission. E-mail message can reach its destination with that within no time. We can correspond any times in a day.
    • Convenience: Computer user can type the message in his computer and send e-mail at any time of his convenience. It saves paper, postal cost and any other problem.
  7. Write a note on World Wide Web.
  8. Answer:- World Wide Web or WWW, also know as web, is a collection of information which is assessed via the internet. It consists of all the public websites connected to the internet including e-mail, news groups, mailing lists etc. The websites are identified by short, unique, global identifiers called URLs such as https://www.smartstudies.in. To access the information stored on the WWW we use web browser such as Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox etc.

  10. Answer:- The main services provided by Internet are as follows:-
    1. World Wide Web:- WWW is a collection of information in the form of websites which are accessed via Internet using web browsers like Google Chrome, Internet Explorer etc.
    2. E-Mail:- It is the fastest way to send and receive messages over Internet to any part of the world.
    3. E-Commerce:- The ability to do business without the user constraints of time and distance make E-Commerce one of the most important services provided by the Internet.
    4. Social Networking Sites:- These websites function like an online community of Internet users where every user has a unique profile and can invite each other to join them. Examples include Facebook, Twitter etc.
    5. Video Conferencing: - In this, users can have face to face conversation with the help of video cameras connected to two or more computers.
    6. Chatting:- It is an online conversation in which users can instantly send text messages to each other.
    7. Web Searching:- It is the process of searching specific information over internet with the help of search engines.
